If you work with teens, you know what it's like to be in 'material limbo', either you never have enough or your swimming in seemingly unusable leftovers. Lately, I have been trying to think of clever ways to upcycle paper products into fun teen projects, and I've been lucky to find a bunch of cool ideas online. One of my recent favorites is this cardboard Ninendo 3DS featured in the video below. Although the video is a spoof, I think these little paper toys could be a ton of fun to make with teens. To make your own, check out the video and follow the directions below.
Materials:
Cardboard boxes
Poster cardboard
Xacto knife
Old video game magazines
Glue
Markers
Directions:
1. From a piece of a brown cardboard box, cut out a rectangle of cardboard double the length of your DS.
2. Score the back in the center of the cardboard to create a crease for closing
3. Draw on 3DS details with your markers- buttons, screen, and camera lens
4. Cut out game character images from your old gaming magazines
5. Make pop-up devices using your poster board, and then glue them to the back of your paper video game characters. When they dry glue them to the inside of your cardboard 3DS.

What an amazing idea! I think it's the spoof idea that would intrigue teens.
ReplyDeleteThis cardboard toy could be an excellent project for grade school-level kids. In cutting the materials with kershaw leek, it's safe to be under the supervision of adults.
