If there is one goal that all youth organizations have in common, it is to empower youth. We as youth advocates empower youth by acknowledging their right to be heard, by encouraging them to discover their own strength and voice, and by equipping them with tools to share their world and talents with others. The Bay Unity Music Program, known as BUMP records, is built upon these very same ideals, which gives young artists in the Oakland, CA area, the opportunity to develop their passion for music and real-world skills through participation in a youth-run record label.
With the guidance of professional staff, students in the BUMP program produce their own high quality music projects, receive technical training, participate in workshops centered on working in the music industry and support in their development as an artist. Through their involvement in BUMP, "students are challenged to pursue their creative passion seriously while also cultivating an awareness of their own communities and developing transferable professional skills."
